You can’t spew hate and then think you’re safe from criticism by hiding behind the Bible. Indeed, that may be the worst option.

If hate crime legislation passes, then we could be arrested for expressing our religious beliefs.

What they neglect to add is just what those expressions of religious belief are:

• Christian pharmacists refusing to do their jobs of filling prescriptions in the event the drug they are dispensing conflicts with their religious belief.
• Christian school board members who insist that creationism intelligent design be taught in schools as a legitimate science. (It’s not.)
• Christian politicians who insist that Congress swap out the Bill of Rights with the Ten Commandments.
• Muslim radicals who believe alcohol drinkers should be flogged and gays and lesbians be stoned to death.
• Fundamentalists who raise their children to believe that bullying another child is permissible if they believe that child is gay.

Their bullshit sob stories get played out over and over again, and these religious assholes continue to play the martyr every time a law is passed that gives equal rights or a ruling is made that challenges hate speech. They cry foul and hold up their holy books yelling out, “this is the law we should believe in!”

The people that piss me off are such a tiny minority, and yet they receive so much publicity that you’d think they were the only Christians that existed in America. It’s up to the rest of us to call these assholes on their bullshit.

Lets see, who do the people in power hate least? Themselves, obviously: rich, white, Christian men. The hate then piles on exponentially down the ranks to those folks who have the unlucky pleasure of being at “the Bottom.”

But who’s at the Bottom? Well, that’s why we have to ask asinine questions like this. Equality does not compute “at the top.”

Well, we can say for certain that it’s not David Vitter.

I thought the whole thing was bullshit. As it turns out, Southwest Airlines has a history of sexist assholism. (I mean just look at what they were making their stewardesses wear back in the 1960s!) So I drew this little comic to express my opinion of Southwest Airlines. They suck.

Now I gather cruising in public restrooms happens occasionally. I mean, we do live in a paradoxically puritanical yet sex-crazed nation, and deeply closeted, self-loathing, homophobic Republicans need to get their bone on somehow. Larry and Bob must not have a whole lot of experience cruising (or they’re just complete rubbish at it). And I imagine all the hot clubs in town kind of frown upon grouchy old men coming in and crashing the scene. What’s an anti-gay homo Republican to do? Well, apparently they cruise in public restrooms while they’re away on business travel.

Larry was busted in Minneapolis. He lives in Idaho. He got caught cruising and he hoped he could keep it under wraps from his friends, his family, his constituents, and the American public. Now I don’t really care if Larry needs to have some cock in his life. That doesn’t bother me. What bothers me is the self-loathing he has of his own sexuality (whatever that turns out to be) ends up affecting his vote, denying self-respecting queers everywhere the equal rights we deserve. That just pisses me off.

So resign Larry! And I hope you recognize more sooner than later that there’s nothing wrong with being gay, but there’s everything wrong with being gay and vehemently denying it to the detriment of yourself and society.

Slowly but surely our civil rights, our privacy, and our freedoms are being whittled away by a power-hungry administration and an acquiescent Congress. And the most insidious aspect to this: they claim it’s to protect us from terrorism.

No, this is King George III laughing in his grave saying “I told you so,” and Founding Fathers rolling in theirs. I’m reminded of the paraphrase by Benjamin Franklin:

Those who would sacrifice Liberty for security deserve neither.

Our contemporary George III is displaying his own madness in believing that in order to save the United States, everything it stands for has to be eviscerated.

The vote was (as always) split along party lines, with Republicans voting for and Democrats voting against: except for 41 Dems whose heads must have been up their asses or something.

I’m happy to know that 4 out of 5 Oregon Representatives all voted against this bill. (Our one Republican voted ‘yea’, natch.) Nevertheless, I’m shocked that 41 Democrat Representatives felt that “The War on Terror” was worth the sacrifice of privacy.

So that mid-term election we had last November? Yeah, it was just rendered completely irrelevant. The Bush Administration is going to continue to do whatever the hell they want, and the Dems are going to just let them do it.
