Squidgy, even when they're the majority party!
So the House of Representatives just passed S. 1927, the so-called “Protect America Act,” which amends FISA in order to allow for warrantless wiretaps on any United States Citizen.
The vote was (as always) split along party lines, with Republicans voting for and Democrats voting against: except for 41 Dems whose heads must have been up their asses or something.
I’m happy to know that 4 out of 5 Oregon Representatives all voted against this bill. (Our one Republican voted ‘yea’, natch.) Nevertheless, I’m shocked that 41 Democrat Representatives felt that “The War on Terror” was worth the sacrifice of privacy.
So that mid-term election we had last November? Yeah, it was just rendered completely irrelevant. The Bush Administration is going to continue to do whatever the hell they want, and the Dems are going to just let them do it.
