This one struck a nerve.
This shit is going on in the United States right now. Doctors are deciding who gets to reproduce and who doesn’t, and you’ll never guess what their criteria are.
This comic is based on information I read from Radical Doula. It was written in response to this post at Feministing.
Eugenics isn’t just a word that Star Trek geeks are familiar with. (Go watch The Wrath of Khan.) It doesn’t have to involve laboratories and test tubes and gene splicing. It can start with something as simple and insidious as a racist doctor taking away a Latinas reproductive choice, or worse: her womb.
I voluntarily chose to give up my ability to reproduce through surgery. And there were a hell of a lot of hoops I had to jump through first before I even set foot in a clinic. But then I knew I didn’t want to reproduce since I was six or seven years old. (Just ask my mom.)
But for a doctor to decide who gets to have children and who doesn’t, that’s just heinous.
